Schadenfreude

So I’m walking around campus today and it randomly starts raining. Conveniently, I don’t have my umbrella, so I cover my hair with my scarf to avoid ruining it completely. 

I walk into the library and sit down at one of the tables. Across the table is this girl who lived in my hall last year who played Christian rock all the time. She motions for me to lean in, and then whispers to me:

“Hannah, why are you wearing a Muslim head scarf? Aren’t you Asian?”

I legitimately just sat there for a good couple seconds and blinked at her, absolutely dumbfounded. I still can’t quite wrap my head around it.
